Students & Teachers Together Work For Digitization Of Medicine

Digital medicine is a phrase we hear more and more these days. The medical profession is probably one of the last to be digitalized. Every decision the patient makes impacts the patient's life. However, recent studies show that medical care effectiveness is significantly increased by the use of digital technologies, including results of processing and analyzing large quantities of digital medical data.

"Managing image processing and developing orthopaedic wedge-shaped valgus correctors using a 3D printer" is a current project being carried out at Mari State University (supervisor: Candidate of Medical Sciences. ME Winderlich). Scientists from the Medical Institute and the Institute of Digital Technologies collaborated on this project. As a result of the project, it will be possible to diagnose foot pronation remotely for the first time by remotely analyzing digital images of the lower extremities.

This year, under the guidance of Cand. Physical-mathematical Sciences A.E. Nedopekina devised an innovative computer program that matches the angle of valgus deviation of the calcaneus with the lateral image of the lower leg. Additionally, they calculate the height of each wedge corrector (right and left). The current focus is on producing model output for 3D printing.

Remote diagnostics of the valgus (varus) deviation of the calcaneus, which allows non-contact detection, contributes to early diagnosis.

This research sets the stage for the determination of the right and left calcaneus deviations, which can cause a skewing of the pelvic bones, scoliosis, and arthritis of the lower extremities. By correcting the hyper-pronation of each table, pathology of the spine and lower extremities can be prevented, as well as treated. The therapeutic effect is achieved by bringing the vertical axis of the calcaneus and lower limb to a physiological position using individual valgus correctors, which leads to a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients.

Institutions, orthopaedic laboratories, rehabilitation centres, resorts, prosthetic and orthopaedic enterprises can utilize these products. Digital developments are improving the way medical care is organized for people around the world as they encourage the development of new and more efficient methods. Bringing the calf into a physiological position with a valgus corrector improves patients' quality of life. a physiological position.
