There are 10 professors of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics working at two departments, the Department of General Physics and the Department of Higher Mathematics, met the first enrolment – 100 students admitted to the Mathematics and Physics departments of the faculty.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages which is preparing specialists and bachelors in the field of English, German and French philology, has a rich history from the moment of its formation as an independent structural unit of the Krupskaya Mari State Teacher Training Institute in 1952.
During the 59 years of its existence the faculty has prepared more than 3,500 specialists in foreign languages. Graduates of the faculty work at schools and higher educational institutions of the Republic of Mari El, in the leading institutions of higher education in Moscow and St. Petersburg, in France, Germany, England, the USA. 52 graduates are Doctors and Candidates of Sciences. The faculty is proud of Galina Shvetsova, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Mari El; Galina Shiryaeva, Deputy Minister of Culture, Press and Affairs of Nationatilities; Zoya Zorina, professor of Mari State University; Lyudmila Ilyushechkina (Kastler), professor of the University of Grenoble (France); Natalya Glukhova, professor of Mari State University and other graduates.
Today the Faculty of Law has the following departments: the Department of the Theory and History of State and Law; the Department of the Legal support of State and Municipal Administration; the Department of Criminal Law and Legal Proceedings; the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law; the Department of Civil Law and Legal Proceedings; the Department of the Private Law of Russia and Foreign Countries.
The Faculty of Law trains specialists in the following areas:
1. "Law" – Bachelor’s degree. Forms of education – a full-time course of study (4 years), correspondence courses (4,5 years), the second higher education (3,5 years).
2. "Law" – Master’s degree. Forms of education – a full-time course of study(two years), correspondence courses (2,5 years).
3. "State and municipal administration" - Bachelor’s degree. Forms of education – a full-time course of study (4 years), correspondence courses (4,5 years).
The modern Faculty of History and Philology as a structural unit of the university was founded on September 1, 2012 on the basis of two faculties: the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Philology and Journalism.
Today there are 6 departments at the faculty: the Department of World History, the Department of Russian History, the Department of Regional History, the Department of Russian and General Linguistics, the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature, the Department of Journalism.
The departments of the faculty maintain close contacts with establishments of education, science and culture: Scientists of the faculty publish textbooks and manuals for schools in the history of the Republic of Mari El, in methods of teaching the humanities. Since 1991 the scientific and practical year-book "The Mari archeographical bulletin" has been published.
There are three departments at the faculty: the Department of Sport Disciplines. the Department of the Theoretical Bases of Physical Education, the Department of Medical and Biological Disciplines and Life Safety.
The syllabuses provide for training highly qualified specialists in the field of physical education and sport, health and life safety and teachers for schools, technical schools, universities, power structures, state and private tourist and sport establishments and health centres.
The faculty is proud of its graduates: V. Isaev, world class master of sports, world champion among students in cross-country skiing, world champion N. Selyunina-Rochev, Masters of Sports N. Smolentsev, S. Podoplelov, A. Sherstnev and others. There are about 150 Masters of Sports among graduates of the faculty. Four graduates are Candidates of Sciences.
The Faculty has two departments: Applied Mechanics, Machine Science and Technology Department and Theory and Methods of Technology and Professional Studies Department.
Student life is not limited only to study. They actively take part in both university and school cultural and sport events: "Voice of Youth", "Students' Spring", "Club of the Funny and Inventive", and sports contests. The Faculty has hobby groups for those interested in woodcarving, computer graphics, embroidery, relief work, macrame, etc.
The University plays a key role in training qualified specialists. Education is carried out in 55 areas and 3 specialities. More than 8,000 students study at the university.
